FEB 2, 1964: G.I. Joe, the American toy made his debut.
FEB 3, 1954: Queen Elizabeth arrived in Australia and became the first reigning monarch to visit this country.
FEB 4, 1965: Don Lane made his debut as host of the Tonight Show. The show ended in 1969.
FEB 5, 1972: Mary Donaldson was born in Hobart, Tasmania. Crown Princess of Denmark - she married Prince Frederik of Denmark in May 2004.
FEB 6, 1967: The Tommy Hanlon Show premiered on TCN 9, Sydney.
FEB 7, 1986: Lindy Chamberlain was freed from jail in Darwin.
FEB 8, 1909: Dame Elisabeth Murdoch (Elisabeth Greene) was born in Melbourne, Victoria.
FEB 9, 1987: Roselands in Punchbowl, Sydney became an official suburb, named after its shopping centre.
FEB 10, 1973: Wrest Point Casino, Australia's first legal casino, opened in Hobart.
FEB 11, 1979: 60 Minutes began on Australian television. The original reporters were George Negus, Ray Martin and Ian Leslie.
FEB 12, 1990: Dr Carmen Lawrence became Australia's first woman premier when she was elected to power in Western Australia.
FEB 13, 2008: A formal apology to the Aboriginal Stolen Generations was made by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.
FEB 14, 1949: Morris Minor car made its debut in Australia.
FEB 15, 1934: Graham Kennedy was born in St Kilda. He died aged 71 in 2005.
FEB 16, 600AD: Pope Gregory I decreed that "God Bless You" was the correct response to a sneeze.
FEB 17, 1979: Prisoner began on Australian television. 632 one-hour episodes were produced. Most of the filming was done at Channel 10 in Melbourne.
FEB 18, 1954: Skyline Cinema, Australia's first drive-in, opened in Burwood, Melbourne. It closed in 1983.
FEB 19, 1942: Darwin was bombed by Japanese aircraft, killing 243 people.
FEB 20, 1981: At the Azaria Chamberlain inquest in Alice Springs, the coroner Denis Barritt declared in his findings that the baby Azaria has been taken away by a dingo.
FEB 21, 1981: Joe Dolce made No. 1 in the UK with Shaddap Your Face.
FEB 22, 2003: Australian cricketer Shane Warne was banned from playing cricket until February 2004 when he was found guilty of taking a diuretic (fluid tablet).
FEB 23, 1962: AMP BUILDING at Circular Quay, Sydney opened. At the time it was Australia's tallest building with a total of 25 storeys.
FEB 24, 2000: Dick Smith and his co-pilot John Wallington made history when their balloon touched down on a northern NSW beach after successfully crossing the Tasman Sea.
FEB 25, 1961: Trams ran in Sydney for the last time (from La Perouse to Randwick).
FEB 26, 1963: Romper Room began on Australian television. The children's program finally ended in 1988.
FEB 27, 1995: Alan Bond was released from bankruptcy when his creditors accepted a settlement of $3.25 million for debts of $622 million.
FEB 28, 1961: Mark Latham was born in Sydney, NSW.
